Description
A film finish fails at the edge of the damage and has to come off entirely. An oil-wax finish wears through gradually and is repaired by cleaning the area and wiping on more — no sanding back to bare wood, no witness line.
Two thin coats beat one thick one every time. Apply it with a cloth, leave it fifteen minutes, then wipe off everything that has not gone in; what is left on the surface is what stays sticky.
Oily rags get warm as they dry. Lay them flat outside or put them in water before binning them.
