Description
Cast iron, because a cast body absorbs the shock of filing and hammering in a way a fabricated one passes straight into the bench.
The jaw faces are serrated and bolt on, so when they are worn or you want a soft face you change the plate instead of the vice. Two-bolt swivel lock — a single bolt lets the base creep under a heavy cut.
Through the back is a small anvil face, flat enough to be useful for straightening.
Mounting is through three slotted holes rather than three round ones, so it can be aligned square to the bench edge after the first bolt is started instead of wherever the drill happened to go.
