Description
The head is cast and machined, not pressed. A pressed head flexes a little under hand pressure and the square you set is not the square you cut.
The blade locks on a knurled nut against a hardened pin, and the scribe stows in the head. The forty-five face is machined in the same setup as the ninety, so the two agree with each other.
Check it against a known edge when it arrives, and again after anything drops it.
The blade slides right out of the head, which turns it into a straight edge and a depth gauge, and makes it possible to clean the slot properly. Grit in the slot is what takes a square out of true.
